Johnny has two staged readings coming up. They are open to the public and free, with donations suggested.

The playwright’s daughter will be there to celebrate her father’s 100th anniversary of her father’s birthday. Johnny will be reading as Starbuck, a role he has always wanted to play.

Joe Turner’s Come and Gone

This reading is a part of a series produced by The Emancipated Century, The Boston Black Theatre Collective, and The Trotter Institute and Department of Performing Arts at UMass Boston to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation through the staged readings of 10 August Wilson plays. The readings will be at various venues in Boston. This one will be at the Strand Theatre in Dorchester.

Johnny will be reading as Bynam. In 1991, Johnny played Herald Loomis in a production at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago in which he worked directly with August Wilson.
