Critical Response
“Tennessee Shakespeare Company has mounted a production of Richard III that is inventive and thrilling, while making use of the discovery two years ago of the real monarch’s remains under a parking lot in Leicester, England. . . . McCleary plays Richard while seven other actors play multiple characters. The actors shift characters subtly . . . . The performers are remarkable for their skill and versatility in making you chuckle or making you weep. Whichever way it’s going, the energy is always high, particularly at the end of the first act when Richard is proclaimed king.”
