Revelation Readings: The Witch
Red Bull Theater at St. Clement’s, New York City
February 7, 2011
Read as the Duke
Synopsis
Directed by Eleanor Holdridge, Johnny read the part of the Duke in Thomas Middleton’s The Witch, “a wickedly funny play featuring Hecate, the queen witch from Shakespeare’s Macbeth.” This reading was part of an ongoing OBIE Award-Winning series dedicated to the rediscovery of neglected classics and to the development of new plays of heightened language and classical themes.
Critical Response
“The commanding presence and majestic voice of Johnny Lee Davenport as the Duke recalled James Earl Jones in his Off-Broadway days.”
